Isabella
Isabella

sadie
Sadie

Raising Puppies

Isabella is a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. I started working with her when she was 10 weeks old. She is now 15 weeks and knows lots of new things. She knows sit, down, roll over, paw, stand, leave it, take it, give it, go potty, attention (watch me), come, stay and wait. She walks gently on a lead and stays with her owner without a lead at the park.

Isabella is a high energy dog and easily gets bored. One day the only thing that motivated her long enough to train was a rock!!

Sadie is an American Bulldog. I've been working with Sadie for the past three weeks. She is a very gentle, low energy dog that would just love to curl up in your lap and cuddle if she wasn't so big. She is somewhere between 3 and 4 months old. We suspect that she is a product of a puppy mill, but we'll never know.

Sadie has the attention span of a flee, but she has learned sit, down, leave it, take it, stay, attention and how to walk on a lead with no pulling or dragging. She has also learned that when her brother Pollito gets a treat, that she is to leave it alone. We'll be coming back to teach Sadie more good behavior in a few weeks.

Yoshi

Hyperactive Dog

Yoshi is a 9 month old German Shepard / St Bernard / Chow mix. He is very hyperactive and has absolutely no impulse control or attention span. Yoshi's owner works late hours, so it's difficult to get Yoshi enough exercise and he is a high energy dog.

I've been working with Yoshi for 4 weeks and although we have calmed him down quite a bit, he still never stops moving for more then a few seconds and even in a sit or a down, he is wiggling. His hyperactivity stems from having gotten his own way since he was a puppy. He demands and then receives attention constantly. So when he isn't getting attention, he is moving around demanding it.

This training is more for the human then the dog :)

Sedona, Muffin and Ziggy

Out of control trio

Sedona and Muffin are ShiTzu's and Ziggy is a mini Dachshund. They are between 3 and 5 years old and are all rescues. Ziggy was getting aggressive with his owner, including nipping and biting her. Sedona was the instigator and whatever she told the others to do would happen. Muffin use to fit her name as she was pretty much a couch potato.

After 10 weeks they are all model dogs. Ziggy no longer bites his owner and now loves for her to groom him and give him massages. Sedona is still dominant but doesn't instigate anything but play now. Muffin has decided that the quiet life is no longer for her and is actually bringing her owner toys to play with.

They have all learned to behave at the dog park with only the occassional fence fight from Sedona. Unfortunately, a pre-existing condition of heartworm for Ziggy has cropped up again and he is out of action until he finishes his treatments.

Pringles
Ruki
Ruki

Pringles, Shadow and Ruki

Pringles the Pit Bull, Shadow the Shepard and Ruki her son are three great rescues that needed a little bit of direction. Pringles started snapping at his owner, Shadow is a terror on the walk and Ruki is just full of puppy mischief.

Helping these dogs has been a hit or miss thing because of their owners schedule. But in three visits, Pringles and Ruki are doing wonderfully on the walk and with obedience. Pringles still comes up with things that he just doesn't want to do and snaps, but he comes around eventually and relinquishes control over that activity. Ruki is learning his basics and how to stay out of the trash. We'll be working with Shadow starting next week.

There are also two kittens in this home. The newest one still isn't a full member and Pringles would love to eat him, but things are getting better.

Wendy and Brittany

Wendy and Brittany

Wendy is another 3 hour success story. Wendy the dachshund was biting and lunging at strangers and not so strangers. She was sure that it was her job to decide who could come into the house and whether or not they were allowed to move their little toe. Brittany just followed Wendy's lead.

After 10 minutes Wendy had calmed enough to take a walk. In 15 minutes we were walking with both dogs and the stroller with both kids in it and every one was calm and enjoying the beautiful morning.

Inside the home we got Wendy's toe nails clipped for the first time in years, taught Brittany "beg" and "down", showed both dogs that bolting out the door was not a good thing and Wendy allowed me to move around her house with no problems and even begged for scratches.
