Seize The Leash - Workshops
Each weekly one hour workshop costs $25. Workshops are held every Saturday at 1pm or Friday at 6pm (once we have sunshine). All workshops are held outdoors at Ft Lowell Park Ramada 5. You must preregister for these workshops here - no walk-ins. Workshops will give you the tools to work with your dog to solve a specific behavior issue. There is no guarantee that in an hour your dog's issues will be fully resolved.
If you would like to have a workshop conducted in your area, please ask us. We would require that you sign up at least 5 dog human teams to have a workshop anywhere but Ft Lowell Park. A one time trip charge will be assessed depending on how far from central Tucson you are. Call us at 727-686-4246 or 520-751-7772 or email us at packleader@seizetheleash.net for more information.

Jan 29 - Boredom Busters
Boredom Busters
This workshop will cover improving your dog's ability to focus on you and respond to your commands. You will learn how to handle the behaviors that occur because a dog is bored, understimulated, underexercised or just not in tune with the human world. The most common behaviors addressed are barking, chewing, digging and escaping. This workshop is about learning to control your dog's behavior by being meticulous in the way you react to what he does. Once you know how to do that, then, you will know for yourself how to apply those skills to the resolution of any particular problem such as separation anxiety. First workshop January 29th, 2011.
Shy Dog Workshop
We will engage your dog's natural curiosity, show you how to handle any fear of new objects, people or other dogs and make it safe for your dog to interact with the world around it. This workshop will give you the tools to change your dogs emotions and build her confidence in herself and in you. We will cover the basic principles of TTouch and how to apply them to your dog. Tellington Touch is especially recommended for nervous dogs, fearful dogs, aggressive dogs, or hyperactive dogs.
Play With Your Dog
We will introduce play training, a method of teaching your dog everything it needs to know to live in a human world. Play and games develop trust and self control between the owner and dog. Play training is a way to teach your dog games that you and your dog can play together. Enjoy discovering these games with your dog. Come have fun with an open mind and heart. Playing together will help develop a wonderful relationship between you and your dog.
Best Friends Forever
This workshop will cover the basics of communicating with your dog and getting your dog to communicate with you. When you open up the lines of communication with your dog, it can't help but impact the entire relationship and bond you share. You might not realize it, but your dog watches and listens to you all the time and learns your patterns of behavior. Sometimes it seems as if she can read your mind, but her ability to predict your every move is really just good observation skills at work.
Out of Control!
With the use of reinforcement and timeouts we teach you and your dog self-control for every part of the
dog's life.. To learn, the dog must be able to think
and to think requires self-control.
What is the opposite of self-control? OUT-OF-CONTROL!!! Being out-of-control
is what sends most dogs to the pound. Obedience training by itself
does not teach self-control. We start with the absolute basics. We use what the
dog wants and show him how to get it in appropriate ways. First workshop Saturday January 15th, 2011
Life Without A Leash
COME!!! The single toughest, most critical, most asked about, most theorized about and most paid for command in the dog training world. Learn the techniques to teach your dog to come when you call it - EVERY TIME! Also for dog owners who have taught their dogs to come but are having trouble around distractions and want some coaching.
Too Many Dogs!
How to survive in a multi-dog home. What to do when fights break out. How to break up a dog fight. How to reintegrate dogs that have been kept separate due to aggression issues. How to introduce a new dog into your existing pack and how to select the dog that will fit right in. First workshop Saturday January 8th, 2011
Dog Park Basics
We will practice: typical dog park rules; dog park etiquette; entering/exiting a dog park; how to get your dog's attention in the dog park; your dog and the law; basics of dog to dog communication; how to spot when play is about to become something else; and, how to break up a dog fight.
Self-control Games
This workshop
includes exercises that require your dog to hold a position despite severe distractions and a high arousal level. A food-motivated dog that is asked to sit and hold that position while treats are dropped all around her is demonstrating excellent self-control. A dog that is easily aroused by motion, but can hold a sit while dogs and children are playing close by is showing excellent self-control.
Stop Pulling!
A workshop for you and your dog to learn to walk without her pulling on the leash. We will practice real life situations. Lots of distractions (other dogs, people, food, etc.) will be provided and instruction oand we will cover how to get your dog to ignore these distractions. You will work on getting and keeping your dog's attention and teach your dog to focus on you the handler. First workshop Saturday January 22nd, 2011
Teaching Tricks - the Art of Shaping
"How do I get that treat. What do I need to do? Let's try this. No. Let's try that. No. Maybe this will work". Tricks like riding a skateboard, or crawling with the belly on the ground, or rolling over, playing dead, hand shaking or high fives can all be shaped. You could probably teach a dog to cook breakfast as well, buthow do you stop him from eating it before he brings it to you in bed?
